Two esteemed former winners are marking the 100th anniversary of the British Junior Open by locking horns in an eagerly-awaited exhibition match on the all-glass court at the University of Birmingham.
On 2 January at 7pm, exciting young English talent Jonah Bryant will take on Malaysia’s dynamic world no.17 Eain Yow Ng in what’s set to be a highly entertaining centrepiece to the BJO’s centenary celebrations.
Bryant has blasted up the world rankings this year, winning seven PSA Tour titles, helping England to European Team Championships victory on his senior debut and recently reaching the Qatar Classic semi-finals. As a junior, he won the BJO U13 title in 2018 and twice reached the U19 final.
Bryant’s exhibition opponent Eain Yow won BJO titles in three ages groups (U13, U15 and U17) before finishing third in the U19 category in 2016. He was crowned World Junior champion in Bielsko-Biała, Poland, later that year.
Bristol-based Eain Yow said: “I have such amazing memories of playing in seven editions of the British Junior Open, especially winning titles in the U13, U15 and U17 age categories.
“The BJO was an important platform for me to build my career as a top-10 professional on the PSA Squash Tour.
“It’s now an honour to come back to Birmingham on the BJO’s 100th anniversary to play Jonah, who is making such an incredible impression at the top of the world rankings.”
Bryant, who is based in nearby Solihull at the Rob Owen Squash Academy, added: “What an incredible honour it is to play a part in the British Junior Open’s centenary celebrations by facing Eain Yow in this exhibition.
“The British Junior Open was a big part of my junior career and it was always a thrilling experience playing on the all-glass court at the University of Birmingham’s sport centre.
“My training base is in Birmingham, so this will be a chance to play in front of a home crowd and inspire the next generation of future pros.”
