It’s finals day at the centennial 2026 British Junior Open and it’s Egyptian stars who dominate the schedule at the University of Birmingham venue.
All but three of today’s 20 finalists hail from the Land of the Pharaohs, including both Adam Hawal and Seif Refaay in the showpice BU19 final on show court one at 15.15.
The GU19 final, however, is an Egypt-free zone with Indian sensation Anahat Singh bidding for a fourth BJO title (at only 17, she could still come back and win two more!). Standing in her way is France’s gutsy second seed Lauren Baltayan who is looking for a first BJO trophy at her seventh attempt. They play at 14.30.
Top seed Habiba Rizk will be aiming for a third British crown and is up against [3/4] Mariam El Mattet in the GU17 final. The BU17 showpiece will see [1] Farouk Mohamed take on [3/4] Philopater Saleh.
Egypt dominate the lower age group finals, with one exception, that of Hong Kong’s [5/8] Ngo San Peung who plays [2] Hazem Mahmoud El Fadly in the BU11 final.
The action begins at the University of Birmingham Sports and Fitness Centre at 09.00 with the first finals at 10.30.
Watch all the live finals on the all-glass courts at the University of Birmingham from 10:30am on Tuesday 6 January on the official website. Follow the action on the official British Junior Open Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
