It’s semi-finals time at the 100th Alpha Bravo Construction British Junior Open

We’re down to the semi-finals in Birmingham at this special 100th anniversary edition of the Alpha Bravo Construction British Junior Open.

This is where the action gets really serious as the world’s best young squash players battle for one of the most prestigious prizes on offer in the sport.

With all 10 top seeds still intact, the level of quality on show on Monday will be immense.

Arguably the most keenly anticipated match for local squash fans will be England’s [5/8] Mariam Eissa taking on top seed and last year’s BJO U15 champion Habiba Rizk of Egypt in the GU17 semis at 13.00. Multiple ex-British and English junior champion Eissa hails from nearby Kenilworth.

The BU19 semis will see last year’s U17 finalists, [1] Adam Hawal and [2] Seif Refaay, face American hopeful [3/4] Christian Capella and France’s [3/4] Amir Khaled-Jousselin respectively in the afternoon.

Anahat Singh, winner of 12 PSA Tour titles already at the age of 17, always attracts a rapt audience and her quest to reach a sixth BJO final continues against Egypt’s [3/4] Malika El Karaksy at 15.40. European junior champion [2] Lauren Baltayan of France plays [3/4] Sohayla Hazem Farouk of Egypt in the other semi.

India have another title hopeful in the form of [2] Aryaveer Dewan in the BU17 after his thrilling victory yesterday against [9/16] Yassin Kouritam. Dewan takes on [3/4] Philopater Saleh of Egypt on show court one at 15.00.

Egypt dominate the younger age categories but Ngo San Leung offers hope for Hong Kong when he takes on top seed Azlan Khan of the USA in the BU11 semi at 11.00.

Watch all the live semi-final action on the all-glass courts at the University of Birmingham from 10:20am on Monday 5 January on the official website. Follow the action on the official British Junior Open FacebookInstagram and TikTok.
