Semi-Final Roundup : Egyptians dominate as Ali makes history for Kuwait

Top seeded Egyptians Mohamed Zakaria and Fayrouz Aboelkheir eased into the Under 19 finals with comprehensive 3-0 wins, as did second seeds Jonah Bryant and Caroline Fouts. For Aboelkheir and Bryant it’s a second U19 final in a row, both having missed out in last year’s showpiece matches.

The Under 17 finals will also be contested by the top seeds with India’s Anahat Singh joined by three Egyptians in the finals. Nadien Elhammamy had to fight back from two games down to deny France’s Lauren Baltayan in the closest and most raucous match of the day. Boys’ finalists Youssef Salem and Marwan Asal were the U17 and U15 champions last year, and both beat fellow-Egyptians to set up an enticing clash – a repeat of their recent US Junior Open final.

In the Under 15s, 9/16 seed Abdullah Ali made history as he beat Egypt’s Farouk Mohamed 3-1 to become the first Kuwaiti ever to reach a BJO final. He’ll meet Egyptian top seed Philopater Saleh who beat India’s Aryaveer Dewan in four games. The Girls’ final will be an all-Egyptian affair between top seed Malika El Karasky and Rama El Naggar, the 5/8 seed who battled her way to a four-game win over second seeded Malaysian Harleein Tan.

Two Egyptian U13 champions are guaranteed – top seeds Malak Helmy and Omar Mohamed both beat compatriots to reach the Boys’ final, while in the girls’ semis 3/4 seed Reem Elmaghraby ousted American top seed Vivienne Sze in four games while second seeded Layan Moustafa beat compatriot Joudy Yousry in straight games.

Team USA also lost a top seed in the Under 11s, where two Egyptians champions are also guaranteed.  Fayrouz Elsayad beat USA’s Kaylee Li in straight games to set up a Girls’ final against Serein Mohamed, both seeded 3/4. Both Boys’ semis were hotly contested all-Egyptian affairs with Yahia Waleed Rayan and Adam Ragab, seeded 3/4 and 5/8, winning emotionally-charged battles.

Finals begin at 09.30 tomorrow, all on the Glass Court
