Player WSO Course

All players must have completed a WSO officiating course:

Players who have not completed a WSO officiating course will not be eligible to take part in this event. To find out more about refereeing, visit the WSO’s website.


Physio provision

Physio – Hannah Farrell (2-6 January at University of Birmingham)
Hannah is a Consultant Physiotherapist with over thirty years’ experience working within the National Health Service (NHS).

Since 2024, she has served as Principal Physiotherapist for England Squash at the British Junior Open and supported the English Junior Squash Championships in early 2025. In addition, she has worked with the Professional Squash Association (PSA) at the British Open in both 2023 and 2024.

In 2022, Hannah was proud to volunteer as a Physiotherapist at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Hannah is pleased to continue her role as Lead Physiotherapist for the British Junior Open, based at the University of Birmingham Sport again this year.

Qualifications: BSc (Hons) and MSc MACP SRP

Physio – Jemma Gwinnett (1-6 January, Stourbridge Squash Club)
Jemma has been in business for the last 13 years and more recently setting up a private clinic at Stourbridge Tennis and Squash club.

She treats a wide variety of clients from sports backgrounds, and recently left Rugby Union after five seasons working in pitch side trauma, general maintenance and injury which has provided her with a valuable wealth of experience in dealing with sporting issues.

Treatments:
– Full treatment is advised 3-4 days prior to competing and is 60 minutes long and costs £75.
– Pre and post treatment – advised for on the day, flushing and light treatment with taping, is 20-30 minutes and £35.

Physio – Charlotte (3 & 4 January at Edgbaston Priory Club)
Charlotte has been working as a physio since 2023 after graduating from Sheffield Hallam University. Since then, she has worked in private clinical practice in Sheffield and Sheffield Rugby Club, as well as completing her Sport Medicine MSc at Leeds Beckett University.

She really enjoys helping people find the cause of their injuries, using exercise, personalised rehabilitation and pilates to help achieve their goals and further their sporting ability.

She is extremely sporty, having previously reached top 100 on the PSA tour and now play field hockey at a regional level. Hannah loves working with people who care about their health and bodies during exercise, and keeping it in the best condition.

Qualifications: MSc Sport Medicine, Leeds Beckett University Bsc Physiotherapy, Sheffield Hallam University APPI Pilates level 1&2,  RFU PHICIS level 2 pitch side intermediate care award, FA ITMIF pitch side trauma award, Level 3 sports massage Level 3 exercise referral award.

Tournament Referee Statement

The Referee Team are very much looking forward to officiating at the British Junior Open 2026 and participating in this prestigious event in which some of the World’s most talented Junior Squash Players will showcase their talent.

For the Tournament to be successful and free from controversy we ask that all Players, Coaches and Parents read the World Squash Officiating (WSO) Directive for Junior Events WSO Directive Junior Events

We expect all players to be familiar with the rules and, if necessary, we will apply the Code of Conduct rigorously. Please note:

  • Coaching during match play will be immediately punished with a Conduct Stroke. A repeat offence will be punished with a Conduct Game and the Coach/Parent removed from the playing area.
  • On the Glass Courts, each player is allowed one Coach only between games.
  • Towels are not permitted on court.

Invasion of the court is not permitted and will result in Player’s disqualification.

Whilst these guidelines will essentially apply to players, please note that Referees and Tournament staff will not tolerate any form of dissent, intimidation or abuse from parents/guardians or coaches under any circumstances.

If you have a query regarding any aspect of a match, please address them to the Tournament Desk and not the Match Referee. Approaches to the match referee will not be tolerated. The Tournament Referee (University of Birmingham) and Assistant Tournament Referee (Edgbaston Priory Club) will be available if required.
