Quarter-finals day in Birmingham as players from 12 countries aimed to move one step closer to a coveted BJO title.

Long and Dramatic day in Birmingham as semis are settled

It was a long day, with matches on the University Glass Court starting at 9am and finishing after 10pm, with the final two matches moved to the side courts to avoid a midnight finish!

There were more significant upsets with two Malaysian top seeds both beaten by Egyptians – Yassin Azouz overcame the B11 top seed and Malak Tala deposed the G15 favourite.

There was home success as Sam Todd justified his B17 top seeding, Katie Malliff saved match balls to reach the B17 semis, and Yusuf Sheikh upset a 3/4 seed to reach the B15 last four.

There were significant escapes too, with Egypt’s G17 second seed Sana Ibrahim one of several to save match balls on the way to victory.

Team USA have just two semi-finalists in Marina Stefanoni and Caroline Fouls in the G19 and 15, while Pakistan’t boys continued their impressive run to claim three semi-final spots.
